Scathophaga stercoraria (Yellow Dung-fly / Sarı Pisliksineği) [Pair/Çift] from Bolkar Mt., Niğde - -23.05.2009.

Body length: approx. 7-9 mm

Golden-furred males swarm on fresh cow pats and horse dung. Females are less furry and rather greyish: less common than males. In early spring yellow dung-flies congregate on dung to mate and lay eggs. Arrival of female greeted with flurry of activity and mating pair subsequently seen. Adult preys on other flies on the dung, while their larvae feed and develop inside the dung.

It is one of the most familiar and abundant of flies in many parts of the northern hemisphere. For more info on the species please click here.
